On Saturday, September 21, Shadowbrook Farm & Dutch Girl Creamery opened its gates for an insightful NSAS Farm Tour. Hosted by Kevin and Charuth Loth, the event showcased their beautifully run, sustainable farmstead, with something for everyone to learn.
Kevin, the farmer behind the operation, shared his knowledge of managing vegetable production for farmers markets and CSA programs, highlighting the dedication it takes to maintain the farm’s productivity. Charuth, the mastermind behind Dutch Girl Creamery, walked attendees through the art and science of making goat cheese, explaining the intricate processes that go into crafting the many varieties they offer.
The day wouldn’t have been complete without Mar Lee, the farm's expert goatherder, who provided a fascinating look into raising, tending, and milking their goat herd. Her expertise and passion shone as she described the daily care of the goats and the importance of their role in the farm's ecosystem.
It was a peaceful yet productive day of learning and community, all set against the backdrop of the serene Shadowbrook Farm. Many thanks to SARE for funding this event and to Kevin, Charuth, Marlee, and the entire Shadowbrook team for sharing their expertise and opening up their wonderful space to us.
