Our recent Roundtable Discussion with Certified Organic Farmers brought us together in Lincoln at the beautiful Milkweed Event Center. Gathered around delicious food, farmers and supporters shared insights and experiences in a supportive and lively atmosphere.
Leading the discussions were Evrett Linquist and Ruth Chantry, owners of Common Good Farm, who brought their wealth of experience and passion for sustainable, organic farming.
We covered a wide range of topics, including pest control challenges and the unexpected increase in rabbits—a growing concern for many. Evrett and Ruth also led a conversation about land access, highlighting the innovative ways farmers are producing food without necessarily owning the land.
Another key topic was the importance of Drift Watch, a program that helps protect organic farms from unintended pesticide drift. Evrett outlined the legal protections available and steps farmers can take if their land is affected.
The discussion ended with one of the group’s favorite topics: crop selection for organic farms. One farmer shared his insights on growing sweet potatoes, detailing best practices for curing and storage to maximize their quality and shelf life.
Thank you to everyone who joined us! These gatherings are a testament to the strength and knowledge of our community. We look forward to seeing you at our next Roundtable!
