Apply to present at the 2023 Local Food & Healthy Farms Conference
Do you have a passion for sharing your knowledge, expertise and experience? The Nebraska Local Food & Healthy Farms Conference is looking for farmers and food system leaders to present at our 2023 event on a variety of topics. Submit your proposals and suggestions by September 30th, 2022.
Not ready to join us as a presenter? We welcome your suggestions on speakers, topics, and general feedback on what you would like to see at the conference!
About the conference
The conference will be held in-person at The Leadership Center in Aurora, Nebraska over two, full days on Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th, 2023. We are planning on two featured keynote presentations, more than 30 one-hour sessions, an exhibit hall, and social and networking events.
About our attendees
The majority of conference attendees will be farmers, value-added food producers, and ranchers. From beginning and aspiring farmers looking for innovative ways to grow stronger yields, to seasoned and retired farmers wondering how to prepare the next generation. Everyone from food producers growing on urban plots to ranchers with access to acres of land; from the small grain grower and organic vegetable farmer to the bean grower, poultry farmer, and backyard gardener.
As a collaborative conference, we aim to build a bridge between farmers and food system professionals, so the conference will also be attended and built for food system educators, researchers, and advocates with a shared vision of a stronger, more resilient and thriving local food system.

Session formats
Sessions are in-person presentations to groups of 10 - 75 people, and are 60-minutes total. We recommend reserving 20 minutes to Q & A. The breakout rooms offer audio-visual equipment for presentations. Sessions can have up to four presenters and may include formats such as large group discussions, panels, learning circles, lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, video, etc. Session rooms have either classroom seating with rows of chairs or group seating at round tables depending on format requested.
Speaker compensation
Speaker compensation is offered at $100-$250/session and we can provide a variety of compensation options as needed. We recognize that some speakers will have time and expenses covered by their workplace while others will have to pay fully out of pocket. We want to honor whatever people may need to be compensated fairly for their participation, and we will work for appropriate compensation based on each request. We're willing to consider non-traditional requests. We will also gratefully receive waived speaker costs as in-kind support. Please be specific in your requests, and we'll do our best to meet them. Some options for compensation that may be requested include:
- Complimentary registration for the full conference
- Reimbursement or stipends for travel costs, including mileage and/or lodging
- Speaking fees
- NSAS Membership
